May 11, 2026
Students from Perpich Arts High School showcased their filmmaking and animation work at the 2026 EDU Film Festival, held Friday, May 8, at The Main Cinema. The festival, considered Minnesota’s premier celebration of youth filmmaking, featured student work from across the state, around the country, and internationally.

Perpich Media Arts and Visual Arts animation students attended screenings throughout the day, seeing their projects presented on the big screen alongside films from other young creators. Featured student works included an animation collaboration from a group of animation students, linked below.
Khalid Ali, Media Arts Instructor, said the Festival offers students a rare opportunity to experience their work in a professional setting. “The EDU Film Festival is a unique opportunity for Perpich media students to share their work in a theatrical setting with young filmmakers from around the Twin Cities,” Ali said. “In recent years, festival organizers have managed to attract student work from different parts of the world — China, Pakistan, Malaysia.”
Cameron Browne, Visual Arts Instructor teaching Animation emphasized the impact of seeing student films on the big screen. “It is such a wonderful experience to have students share their work at The Main Theater,” Browne said. “Seeing film and animation on the big screen as a group transforms how we experience the stories and efforts of our young artists.”
In addition to screenings, students spent the day connecting with fellow filmmakers, exploring the Saint Anthony Main neighborhood, and celebrating a year of creative work. For many Perpich students, the festival marked both a showcase and a shared artistic milestone.
Congratulations to the Perpich students who were showcased at the 2026 EDU Film Festival!

EDU Film Festival is a student-centered celebration of high school filmmakers. With events in Minneapolis and across Minnesota, under it’s new parent organization, Future Film & Sound, EDUFF creates exceptional spaces for young people to grow their curiosity in film production and sound for film. This is their way of helping young people feel confident and connected, and ensuring educators feel excited and supported.
Each year, students from across the globe submit their original film projects for the chance to be screened at the festival. Between 60 and 120 short films are selected – ranging from documentaries and dramas to comedies, animations, and deeply personal stories. All films are made by young people, and all are presented in a theater setting with friends, teachers, and a live audience.
The EDU Film Festival is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
